48 - THE 3INGHEXAGRAM.

(Looking at) 3ing, (we think of) how (the site of) a town may be changed, while (the fashion of) its wells undergoes no change. (The water of a well) never disappears and never receives (any great) increase, and those who come and those who go can draw and enjoy the benefit. If (the drawing) have nearly been accomplished, but, before the rope has quite reached the water, the bucket is broken, this is evil.

One distributes one's action according to a plan.

Tsing « puits ». On peut changer de place une ville, mais pas un puits. On ne l’acquiert pas, on ne le perd pas (il est ou il n’est pas). On y va, on en vient. S’il se dessèche, si sa corde vient à manquer, si le seau tombe au fond, ce sont autant d’accidents fâcheux. L’eau montant, le puits plein d’eau, c’est le sage qui exhorte et aide le peuple travailleur et besogneux

Symbolisme

Eau par-dessus des arbres figure le puits.
Ainsi le sage anime le peuple et l’excite à l’affection mutuelle.

Commentaire
Le bois dans l’eau et au-dessus de l’eau figure le puits. Un puits bien ménagé ne s’épuise pas. Quand un de ces accidents arrive, c’est qu’on n’a pas fait ce qu’il fallait.

27 - THE Î HEXAGRAM.

Î indicates that with firm correctness there will be good fortune (in what is denoted by it). We must look at what we are seeking to nourish, and by the exercise of our thoughts seek for the proper aliment.

27 - Supply

One supplies as needed.

27 - I, l’alimentation

Ī : 1. Entretenir, soutenir ; 2. Menton, côté de la bouche ; 3. Profond.

Texte

Entretenir : achève heureusement. (Il faut) examiner soigneusement comment on entretient. On doit chercher soi-même ce qui est bon pour sa bouche.

Symbolisme

Une montagne au-dessus du tonnerre (image de celui qui réprime ses désirs, restreint ses tendances). Le sage s’observe ainsi en ses paroles et modère l’usage des aliments.

Commentaire

Entretenir sa rectitude est cause de bonheur. On doit examiner ce que l’on entretient et ce qui doit nous entretenir. Le ciel et la terre entretiennent tout ; le saint entretient la sagesse pour atteindre par eux tous les peuples. Grande est l’opportunité de l’entretien.

27 - L'alimentation

• 1. The first line, undivided, shows that (to its subject) occasion for repentance will disappear. He has lost his horses, but let him not seek for them ;--they will return of themselves. Should he meet with bad men, he will not err (in communicating with them).
• 2. The second line, undivided, shows its subject happening to meet with his lord in a bye-passage. There will be no error.
• 4. The fourth line, undivided, shows its subject solitary amidst the (prevailing) disunion. (But) he meets with the good man (represented by the first line), and they blend their sincere desires together. The position is one of peril, but there will be no mistake.
• 6. The topmost line, undivided, shows its subject solitary amidst the (prevailing) disunion. (In the subject of the third line, he seems to) see a pig bearing on its back a load of mud, (or fancies) there is a carriage full of ghosts. He first bends his bow against him, and afterwards unbends it, (for he discovers) that he is not an assailant to injure, but a near relative. Going forward, he shall meet with (genial) rain, and there will be good fortune.

38.1.2.4.6 (38 > 2) - Refusing pretences

One tries to believe what others say but they can't succeed.

38.1.2.4.6 (38 > 2) - Kwei, l’opposition

Kwèi : 1. Différent, opposé, éloigné, étrange ; 2. Regarder fixement.

• 1. Quand (il n’y a pas d’opposition, mais concorde, que) toute cause funeste disparaît (on revient à l’union comme) un cheval perdu qui revient de lui-même sans qu’on le cherche.
  
  Si l’on rencontre un méchant même, il n’en surviendra rien de fâcheux (on saura se préserver de ses coups ou éviter son contact corrupteur).
• 2. Si l’on s’accorde en route avec son chef, tout réussira. On ne se trompe pas de chemin. — Ou : Si l’on rencontre son chef c’est qu’on ne s’est pas trompé de chemin.
  
  Si l’on a un différend et qu’on se cherche et s’accorde, on se rencontrera sans effet funeste.
• 4. Seul au milieu de la désunion, si le banni rencontre ensuite un honnête homme, il pourra avoir des rapports pleins de droiture et les difficultés antérieures n’engendreront plus d’inconvénient (pour ces deux hommes).
• 6. Seul dans la désunion, le banni est comme quelqu’un qui voit un porc immonde ou un char plein de mauvais esprits. Il tend d’abord son arc pour tirer, puis le lâche. Si ce n’est point un méchant, un brigand ravisseur et que le sort lui soit favorable, le bonheur reviendra.
