Shăng indicates that (under its conditions) there will be great progress and success. Seeking by (the qualities implied in it) to meet with the great man, its subject need have no anxiety. Advance to the south will be fortunate.

46 - Training

One is guided until one reaches knowledge.

Shāng : monter, s’élever, prospérer, grandir.

Shang « monter, s’élever ». Les commencements se développant, le grand homme apparaît. S’il va en avant sans souci, sans fausse inquiétude, il aura le bonheur. Comm. : le grand condescendant, vertueux, amasse les biens ; le petit s’élevant, devient grand.

Symbolisme

Un arbre croissant au milieu de la terre figure Shàng, « monter ». Ainsi l’homme supérieur, s’attachant à la vertu, accumule les petits mérites, pour la rendre grande et élevée.

Commentaire

Le petit en son temps peut s’élever. Le fort condescendant et doux garde le milieu et agit convenablement (envers le petit). De là naît grande prospérité. Ainsi l’homme vraiment grand se manifeste. Il est loué de tous, ses desseins réussissent.

25 - THE WÛ WANG HEXAGRAM.

Wû Wang indicates great progress and success, while there will be advantage in being firm and correct. If (its subject and his action) be not correct, he will fall into errors, and it will not be advantageous for him to move in any direction.

When one overlooks the future, one will not see what is coming.

25 - Wu wâng, l’innocence, l’imprévu

Wu wāng : sans blâme, irréprochable, honnête.

Texte

Conduite irréprochable ; absence d’inconduite, de manque de droiture, etc. Si l’on n’est pas droit et juste, il arrivera des malheurs. Tout sera sans avantage quoi que l’on fasse.

Symbolisme

Le tonnerre roulant sous le ciel. Toute chose est droite en sa nature. Les anciens rois, conséquemment, dans leurs efforts, se conformaient aux raisons pour entretenir leurs peuples. Com. II. — Le fort du dessus domine tout. (Trigramme du ciel.) Agissant fortement, il établit solidement. Il garde le milieu, il est ce qu’il doit être.

Commentaire

Par la droiture on prospère grandement, c’est l’ordre du ciel. Si l’on n’est pas juste, on sera malheureux, on ne réussira en rien. Quelle est la conséquence de la droiture ? Quel acte de l’homme irréprochable le ciel ne secondera-t-il pas par son ordre ?

Quand on néglige l'avenir, on ne verra pas ce qui vient.

• 1. The first line, undivided, shows the younger sister married off in a position ancillary to the real wife. (It suggests the idea of) a person lame on one leg who yet manages to tramp along. Going forward will be fortunate.
• 2. The second line, undivided, shows her blind of one eye, and yet able to see. There will be advantage in her maintaining the firm correctness of a solitary widow.
• 3. The third line, divided, shows the younger sister who was to be married off in a mean position. She returns and accepts an ancillary position.
• 4. The fourth line, undivided, shows the younger sister who is to be married off protracting the time. She may be late in being married, but the time will come.
• 5. The fifth line, divided, reminds us of the marrying of the younger sister of (king) Tî-yî, when the sleeves of her the princess were not equal to those of the (still) younger sister who accompanied her in an inferior capacity. (The case suggests the thought of) the moon almost full. There will be good fortune.
• 6. The sixth line, divided, shows the young lady bearing the basket, but without anything in it, and the gentleman slaughtering the sheep, but without blood flowing from it. There will be no advantage in any way.

There is a greater hurry when it is known that others will do an extraordinary performance.
