• 5. The fifth line, divided, reminds us of (king) Tî-yî's (rule about the) marriage of his younger sister. By such a course there is happiness and there will be great good fortune.
• 6. The sixth line, divided, shows us the city wall returned into the moat. It is not the time to use the army. (The subject of the line) may, indeed, announce his orders to the people of his own city ; but however correct and firm he may be, he will have cause for regret.

T’ai : union, pénétration ; libéralité, générosité.

• 1. (Image de l’union.) Les plantes dont les racines s’entremêlent ne peuvent être arrachées l’une sans l’autre (ainsi l’union multiplie les forces).
• 2. Si l’on supporte la rudesse des autres (pour rester unis) et que, s’étant éloigné (litt. : ayant passé le fleuve, hō), on n’oublie pas ceux qui sont restés en arrière, que l’on traite amicalement ces égaux (pih) ; grâce à cette union, on se maintiendra glorieusement dans la voie du milieu.
• 3. Sans surface plane, point de déclivité ; sans allée, point de retour. Les difficultés dont on se garde n’ont point d’effet funeste et ne donnent point lieu de regretter une conduite droite ; la félicité s’ensuivra.
  
  La première phrase représente les rapports du ciel et de la terre.
• 4. Celui qui est flottant et peu ferme dans sa droiture ne gagnera pas ses voisins par ses richesses et ne deviendra pas digne de confiance, par cela seul qu’il aura été averti (union empêchée par des défauts).
• 5. Ti-Yi, mariant sa jeune sœur, assura la prospérité, un succès supérieur (l’union des époux).
  
  Il assure la réalisation de ses désirs, en restant juste.
  
  
  Note : Ti-Yi est donné comme l’avant-dernier souverain des Shang-Yin. Il prescrivit que les princesses impériales, mariées à des grands de moindre rang, perdraient leur qualité princière. Il assura ainsi leur soumission à leurs époux et la bonne harmonie du ménage.
• 6. Les murs d’une ville tomberont dans la boue, si elle n’a pas un chef (qui maintienne l’union) : elle se fait alors elle-même son sort et n’aura que honte à attendre.
  
  Ainsi l’ordre qui doit y régner, se trouble.
