Texte

L’entretien, l’éducation est comme un gros nuage venant sans pluie des contrées occidentales et contribuant au développement des êtres.

Symbolisme

Le vent soufflant au-dessus du ciel. Ainsi le grand et sage élève et fait briller la vertu.

Commentaire

Le peuple est entretenu quand la bonté occupe le pouvoir et que grands et petits s’y accommodent entre eux. Avec bonté ferme chez les uns et soumission chez les autres, la puissance atteint son but, les desseins utiles s’exécutent. La figure du premier texte représente la prospérité comme le nuage avançant mais non encore répandu largement.

One must help others as best one can before they decide to do what one expects of them.

The topmost line, undivided, shows how the rain has fallen, and the (onward progress) is stayed ; (so) must we value the full accumulation of the virtue (represented by the upper trigram). But a wife (exercising restraint), however firm and correct she may be, is in a position of peril, (and like) the moon approaching to the full. If the superior man prosecute his measures (in such circumstances), there will be evil.

9.6 (9 > 5) - Dominating through fear

One wants to see the evidence that the other is patient and will not take any initiative, even modest, before committing to give back what one took.

Comme après une pluie tout est remis en bon état, ainsi la vertu encouragée se parfait. Une femme, même accomplie, peut être surexcitée et difficile, comme la lune sur le point d’être pleine.

Le sage doit corriger les défauts et les fautes, quand il y a quelque vice.

On veut voir les preuves que l'autre est patient et ne prendra aucune initiative, même modeste, avant de s'engager à lui rendre ce qu'on lui a pris.

Shăng indicates that (under its conditions) there will be great progress and success. Seeking by (the qualities implied in it) to meet with the great man, its subject need have no anxiety. Advance to the south will be fortunate.

One is guided until one reaches knowledge.

46 - Shâng, l’ascension

Shāng : monter, s’élever, prospérer, grandir.

Shang « monter, s’élever ». Les commencements se développant, le grand homme apparaît. S’il va en avant sans souci, sans fausse inquiétude, il aura le bonheur. Comm. : le grand condescendant, vertueux, amasse les biens ; le petit s’élevant, devient grand.

Symbolisme

Un arbre croissant au milieu de la terre figure Shàng, « monter ». Ainsi l’homme supérieur, s’attachant à la vertu, accumule les petits mérites, pour la rendre grande et élevée.

Commentaire

Le petit en son temps peut s’élever. Le fort condescendant et doux garde le milieu et agit convenablement (envers le petit). De là naît grande prospérité. Ainsi l’homme vraiment grand se manifeste. Il est loué de tous, ses desseins réussissent.

The topmost line, undivided, shows its subject solitary amidst the (prevailing) disunion. (In the subject of the third line, he seems to) see a pig bearing on its back a load of mud, (or fancies) there is a carriage full of ghosts. He first bends his bow against him, and afterwards unbends it, (for he discovers) that he is not an assailant to injure, but a near relative. Going forward, he shall meet with (genial) rain, and there will be good fortune.

One wanted to keep the other one away, and then holds back because the latter comes to ask friendly questions.

Kwèi : 1. Différent, opposé, éloigné, étrange ; 2. Regarder fixement.

Seul dans la désunion, le banni est comme quelqu’un qui voit un porc immonde ou un char plein de mauvais esprits. Il tend d’abord son arc pour tirer, puis le lâche. Si ce n’est point un méchant, un brigand ravisseur et que le sort lui soit favorable, le bonheur reviendra.
