Hsü intimates that, with the sincerity which is declared in it, there will be brilliant success. With firmness there will be good fortune ; and it will be advantageous to cross the great stream.

5 - Hope

Something is coming, look forward to it with confidence rather than going and see.

Su : Arrêt forcé, empêchement, obstacle, danger. Résistance aux forces nuisibles.

L’homme droit et ferme aura un succès brillant, s’affermira, se complétera heureusement ; il saura traverser les difficultés. (Litt. : Le grand fleuve — les grandes eaux ; moyen de briser les obstacles, etc.)

Symbolisme


Su est : droiture en face du péril, fermeté inébranlable ne se laissant ni abattre ni surprendre, et dont la justice ne s’affaiblit, ne s’épuise jamais. Celui qui occupe par sa dignité la place du ciel doit maintenir la justice, la fidélité au devoir ; il pourra alors triompher des difficultés, quelque chose qu’il entreprenne.

Su est formé du trigramme « nuage » au-dessus du trigramme « ciel ». Ce sont les nuages s’élevant dans le ciel ; ainsi le sage goûte joie et plaisir.

Quelque chose vient, attendre en confiance au lieu d'aller voir.

5.6 (5 > 9) - Hope

One loses confidence, then sees a group of three passing by. If one approaches them then what one hoped for will be obtained.

5.6 (5 > 9) - Su, l’attente

Su : Arrêt forcé, empêchement, obstacle, danger. Résistance aux forces nuisibles.

Danger que court celui qui est entré dans une caverne. S’il survient des hommes inattendus, trois même, et qu’on les traite avec respect, le bonheur s’ensuivra.

Bien que la situation ne convienne pas, il n’y aura pas grande faute.

On perd confiance, quand on voit passer un groupe de trois. Si on les approche alors on obtiendra ce qu'on espérait.

30 - THE LÎ HEXAGRAM.

Lî indicates that, (in regard to what it denotes), it will be advantageous to be firm and correct, and that thus there will be free course and success. Let (its subject) also nourish (a docility like that of) the cow, and there will be good fortune.

30 - Lucidity

Patience leads to success.

Lī : éclat, brillant, bel extérieur, succès.

Texte

Beauté, « bel extérieur », se développe et s’achève comme dans l’élevage d’un animal domestique (qui, bien soigné, est gras, beau, luisant).

Symbolisme

La lumière du soleil doublée (en dessus et en dessous) forme le Koua. Le grand homme fait ainsi briller ses qualités de plus en plus dans les quatre régions.


Commentaire

Le soleil et la lune brillent dans le ciel ; les grains, les plantes brillent sur la terre. Un double éclat brille dans tout ce qui est droit et juste et transforme, en le perfectionnant, tout ce qui existe ici-bas.

38.1.3.5.6 (38 > 28) - THE KHWEI HEXAGRAM.

• 1. The first line, undivided, shows that (to its subject) occasion for repentance will disappear. He has lost his horses, but let him not seek for them ;--they will return of themselves. Should he meet with bad men, he will not err (in communicating with them).
• 3. In the third line, divided, we see one whose carriage is dragged back, while the oxen in it are pushed back, and he is himself subjected to the shaving of his head and the cutting dff of his nose. There is no good beginning, but there will be a good end.
• 5. The fifth line, divided, shows that (to its subject) occasion for repentance will disappear. With his relative (and minister he unites closely and readily) as if he were biting through a piece of skin. When he goes forward (with this help), what error can there be ?
• 6. The topmost line, undivided, shows its subject solitary amidst the (prevailing) disunion. (In the subject of the third line, he seems to) see a pig bearing on its back a load of mud, (or fancies) there is a carriage full of ghosts. He first bends his bow against him, and afterwards unbends it, (for he discovers) that he is not an assailant to injure, but a near relative. Going forward, he shall meet with (genial) rain, and there will be good fortune.

38.1.3.5.6 (38 > 28) - Taking matters in hand

One does more than one's share to compensate for the lack of willingness of others.

38.1.3.5.6 (38 > 28) - Kwei, l’opposition

Kwèi : 1. Différent, opposé, éloigné, étrange ; 2. Regarder fixement.

• 1. Quand (il n’y a pas d’opposition, mais concorde, que) toute cause funeste disparaît (on revient à l’union comme) un cheval perdu qui revient de lui-même sans qu’on le cherche.
  
  Si l’on rencontre un méchant même, il n’en surviendra rien de fâcheux (on saura se préserver de ses coups ou éviter son contact corrupteur).
• 3. (Effets de la discorde, des luttes.) On voit un char entraîné par la force, son boeuf saisi et arraché, son conducteur maltraité et le nez coupé. Mais un commencement fâcheux peut avoir une bonne fin, si l’union se rétablit.
• 5. Par l’union toute cause de souci disparaît, les parents sont unis.
  
  Litt. : se mordent la peau. Ce qui indique pénétration, union de sentiments.
  
  Où qu’on aille, plus de cause de regret.
  
  On est approuvé de tous.
  
  Le grand est sincère envers le petit. Tchéou-Yih, etc. Sens : Quand la désunion a disparu, les familles sont dans la joie, mangent abondamment.
• 6. Seul dans la désunion, le banni est comme quelqu’un qui voit un porc immonde ou un char plein de mauvais esprits. Il tend d’abord son arc pour tirer, puis le lâche. Si ce n’est point un méchant, un brigand ravisseur et que le sort lui soit favorable, le bonheur reviendra.
