Î indicates that with firm correctness there will be good fortune (in what is denoted by it). We must look at what we are seeking to nourish, and by the exercise of our thoughts seek for the proper aliment.

Symbolisme

Une montagne au-dessus du tonnerre (image de celui qui réprime ses désirs, restreint ses tendances). Le sage s’observe ainsi en ses paroles et modère l’usage des aliments.

Commentaire

Entretenir sa rectitude est cause de bonheur. On doit examiner ce que l’on entretient et ce qui doit nous entretenir. Le ciel et la terre entretiennent tout ; le saint entretient la sagesse pour atteindre par eux tous les peuples. Grande est l’opportunité de l’entretien.

Thung Zăn (or ‘Union of men’) appears here (as we find it) in the (remote districts of the) country, indicating progress and success. It will be advantageous to cross the great stream. It will be advantageous to maintain the firm correctness of the superior man.

T’ong : union, harmonie.

Texte

Si les hommes vivent en concorde dans un pays, il prospérera ; on y traversera les grandes difficultés. Le sage atteindra aisément sa perfection.

Symbolisme

La bonté, obtenant les dignités, gardant le milieu et s’accordant avec le ciel, forme le T’ong yin. Le feu sous le ciel forme l’hexagramme. Par leur vertu, le sage connaît la nature des choses et en saisit le tout harmonique (Shan y erh tchi t’ong). Le feu éclaire le ciel, le fait connaître.

Commentaire

Nous voyons ici l’effet de l’action du ciel. La force mêlée d’habileté et de perspicacité, observant la justice. Ainsi l’homme supérieur est bon et juste, et pénètre la pensée de tout ce qui est sous le ciel. Ainsi règne l’union.
