Yî indicates that (in the state which it denotes) there will be advantage in every movement which shall be undertaken, that it will be advantageous (even) to cross the great stream.

Yī : augmenter, agrandir, enrichir, s’élever, grandir.

Texte

Yī est succès en ce qu’on fait, triomphe sur les difficultés.

Symbolisme

Vent et tonnerre figurent l’accroissement. Ainsi le sage, s’il voit du bien, le fait grandir ; s’il voit du mal, il le corrige.

Commentaire
Diminuer le grand, augmenter le petit, c’est la joie du peuple. Faire descendre les biens sur les petits, c’est une conduite brillante. Tout prospérera si les principes essentiels sont observés. Par l’impulsion d’en haut et la docilité en bas, il y a progrès constant, sans limite. Le ciel donne, la terre produit ; leur production augmente sans cesse. Tout accroissement s’opère en son temps.

Let the king, (having the virtues thus distinguished), employ them in presenting his offerings to God, and there will be good fortune.

41 - THE SUN HEXAGRAM.

In (what is denoted by) Sun, if there be sincerity (in him who employs it), there will be great good fortune:---freedom from error ; firmness and correctness that can be maintained ; and advantage in every movement that shall be made. In what shall this (sincerity in the exercise of Sun) be employed? (Even) in sacrifice two baskets of grain, (though there be nothing else), may be presented.

41 - Removing

One loses one's support and abandons. Accepting the constraints will arouse sympathy.

Texte
Si l’on s’abaisse, se réprime sincèrement, on obtiendra la félicité, on réussira en tout. On réprimera l’orgueil et l’amour du luxe, par l’exemple, en présentant des offrandes simples (deux corbeilles de grain) ; ce sera avantageux.

Symbolisme

Montagne sur eau stagnante. Le sage réprime ainsi sa colère et arrête ses désirs (comme la montagne presse l’eau).

Commentaire
Pour cette offrande simple, il y a un temps convenable ; il y a un temps pour agrandir le faible et diminuer le fort. Diminuer le plein et remplir le vide doivent se faire conformément aux circonstances.

41 - Enlever

On perd ses soutiens et l'on abandonne. En acceptant les contraintes, on éveillera de la sympathie.

• 6. The topmost line, undivided, shows its subject (as) a great fruit which has not been eaten. The superior man finds (the people again) as a chariot carrying him. The small men (by their course) overthrow their own dwellings.

One has lost one's self-respect so one is satisfied with what others didn't want.

Poh : opprimer, renverser, traiter durement.

• 1. Poh, « renverser, faire crouler » son lit en en brisant un pied et le détachant ainsi (suites funestes).
  
  C’est le grand, le prince qui se nuit à lui-même en appauvrissant, affaiblissant son peuple.
• 6. Fruit tout formé qu’on ne mange pas (bien acquis qui se détruit). Le sage, l’homme supérieur conquiert la terre (ou acquiert un char, le peuple qui le porte sur ses bras) ; l’homme bas et vulgaire fait crouler (poh) jusqu’à sa demeure (le fruit formé qu’il ne peut manger).
  
  Il ne pourra plus en user.
